“The movement will not last, however, if it is not accepted and nourished by the people themselves…. It must spread from family to family from house to house, from block to block, from neighborhood to neighborhood. It must be securely rooted in community, in the shared understanding that at life transitions and crises we must go alone and empty to the wilderness so that new life status may be confirmed and imbalances in the community righted. Am I dreaming?”
- Foster and Little: The Four Shields
Steven Foster Memorial Scholarship Fund
For five years the larger community has supported the Steven Foster Memorial Fund. We are deeply grateful.
Of course, our gratitude is not only for the support given to individuals, but also for all the ways the scholarship fund sustains the work of the School. This fund helps us fill our programs, reach out to new communities, and continue with a heritage of compassion. For decades Steven and Meredith did all that they could to say YES! to everyone who heard the call to fast and train. We are committed to carrying this forward and want to honor that our YES! is backed by a whole community of people. For this we are truly thankful.
The hunger for this ceremony remains strong. Since we announced the creation of this Scholarship Fund, many wonderful people have written to us for assistance. We hear their dedication and commitment to bring forth gifts and service, but we simply do not have the funds to offer the support they need. The Scholarship Fund is currently on empty, so we ask once again for you to reach into your hearts and your pockets and gift the Scholarship Fund with a donation, small or large, to sustain a vital and viable resource. Our intention is to assist as many people as possible, while respecting individual integrity and authority. In honoring the importance of self-reliance and the need for people to invest in themselves, the School operates under the guideline of offering partial scholarships of one-third the total tuition. Please remember that numerous small donations of ten or twenty dollars can create many opportunities for those who hear the roaring of the sacred river and the call of service in this ceremony.
With love and dedication,
Angelo, Betsy, Ruth, Meredith, Emerald, Gigi, Win, Scott and all the Staff
