This rite of passage is for girls marking their transition into adulthood. The idea of girls coming of age in todays’ progressive and rapidly changing world speaks to the need for skilled guidance and community-witnessed ceremonies to support the explorations of their role as an “adult” and validate their coming of age. This rite of passage ceremony offers the young initiate the opportunity to claim her place in community, society and the world as a young adult. A place where she will be able to give expression to her dreams, imagination and vision for future generations. This rich and potent time is an opportunity to join with others and leave behind the stage of childhood and live into the life you were born to.
The practice of rites of passage is an ancient one and continues to this day to provide us with the symbolic means of moving from one stage of life to the next. The survival of the species depends on the youth with their passion and genius to take their place in the world so that the people will thrive. Without a meaningful rite of passage from adolescence to adulthood it can be difficult to feel one’s true sense of belonging and to find ones true sense of self as an adult woman.
Perhaps you are one of many girls who have been called to this ceremony. Perhaps it is time to ask your-self: What does it mean to me to be an adult woman in the world today? What is being asked of me? What are my gifts? Who am I? What is alive for me now? Perhaps you will realize the time has come to claim the next stage of life as a young adult woman.
The journey is 10 days long, including preparation time, a three- day solo, and a few days of sharing and reflecting the stories and gifts that each will bring back from their time on the land. This will be a community- witnessed ceremony where you will be held and met in a resonating circle of women of all ages to welcome you to this new stage of your life. It will be a valid confirmation of your steps toward adulthood.
We invite you to join with a community of peers and enjoy the beauty of the Oregon wilderness where you will be exposed to the wisdom of nature and guided collaboratively by an intergenerational team from the School of Lost Borders, With Silvia Talavera and Amy Biesemeyer as the lead guides and other team members TBA.
