Traversing Queer* Elderhood, An Initiatory Program for those aged 50+ in the LGBTQIA+ Community

Sep 2nd, 2019 - Sep 7th, 2019

For Queer people born between the 1930’s, and ‘60's we have 'come of age' at an incredible time for the LGBTQ+ community, and it is time to step fully into our queer elderhood!  We have seen this culture go from demonizing queer people to legalizing same-sex marriage. Since those early days, there has been both unimaginable acceptance and harsh backlash.

We have been through many painful struggles on this queer journey.  Yet these struggles and traumas have forged in us an amazing ability to survive, and even to thrive! There is much to celebrate, and much to mourn.  Our often painful history calls us now to step into elderhood in a way that is nourishing to community, to those coming behind us and to the earth itself.

In this unique and timely program, come and honor the joys and sorrows of being a Queer Elder! There has never been a more important time to show up fully. Come and step completely into your amazing gifts that the world needs now more than ever

Traversing this time of our lives as a powerful Queer Elder will be the focus of this six-day program. This initiatory journey will have spacious days with time on beautiful land in Colorado, and sitting in council to tell and witness our unique queer stories and gifts. There will also be a 24 hour solo fast, out on the land during the day and in camp at night, to mark this initiation into Queer Elderhood. We look forward to celebrating with you the Queer Elder that you are!

LOCATION AND DATES: We will meet in the afternoon/evening of September 1, 2019 at Wild Mountain Ranch, a 2 1/2 hour drive southwest of Denver, CO. The program will end mid-day on September 7th. Wild Mountain Ranch is at 9,500' elevation and overlooks a dozen 14,000 foot peaks. Please contact Pedro before making travel plans.

ENROLLING AND COST: Sliding scale, $550-$1100 with scholarships available. A deposit of $200 is required and will hold your place. To enroll simply click on the 'enroll' button. You can pay there via PayPal or send a check to the School of Lost Borders.

LOGISTICS: Plan to bring a tent, pad and sleeping bag to 'car camp' and food for the entire program. We will often share meals so bringing things that can be shared is a good idea. You can also eat alone if you wish. There is an outhouse, outdoor shower and full outdoor kitchen as well as an indoor space for your use.

*We recognize and honor that the word “queer” has been used in the past as a derogatory term and is still hurtful for some in the LGBTQ+ community. Many LGBTQ+ organizations and communities have reclaimed the word “queer” and this has been both empowering and uniting of the multiple complex identities within the community. We use the word here as an inclusive term and shortcut for the LGBTQ+ lettering.

The School of Lost Borders has created a sliding scale for all its programs and trainings in an effort to keep our courses affordable to a wide range of people. We set forth no criteria and trust that each individual will pay what they feel is appropriate.
